Zusammenfassung

Die Star-Trek-Fernsehserien versprechen eine bessere Zukunft – ein Universum, in dem Diskriminierungen auf Grundlage von Rasse, Geschlecht oder der sexuellen Orientierung als überwunden gelten oder, wenn doch noch vorhanden, erfolgreich bekämpft werden. Und gerade diese Einstellung gilt als entscheidend für den weltweiten Erfolg von Star Trek – und einer globalen Fankultur, inklusive vieler queere Fans. Aber verwirklicht Star Trek sein Versprechen in Hinsicht auf die science-fictionalisierte Repräsentation von Schwulen, Lesben, Bisexuellen, Transgenders und gelebter Sexualität, die nicht heteronormativen Standards entspricht? Um diese Frage zu beantworten, untersucht die Autorin die Verknüpfung von Formwandlern und Homosexualität in den Serien Star Trek: Deep Space Nine und Star Trek: Discovery. Es wird gezeigt, dass Gestaltwandeln und gleichgeschlechtliche Sexualität eine tödliche Kombination bilden, in der die interagierenden Kategorien Geschlecht, sexuelle Orientierung, Raum und Race eine signifikante Rolle spielen.
