Abstract
Surface crusts formed as a result of raindrop impact restrict water infiltration. The decrease in infiltration is accompanied by an increase in surface flow and accelerated erosion. Reduced water intake as a result of crusting decreases the water available to plants. Upon drying, the surface crust may impede plant emergence and growth.
