Abstract

Chitosan/silica nanocomposite membrane doped with Al2O3 nanoparticles is prepared via sol–gel route by mixing the inorganic silica-based in the chitosan matrix. Understanding the interaction between chitosan molecules as a natural biopolymer and aluminosilicate as a semiconductor is one of the principal objectives for the development of new environmentally benign strategies for the synthesis of low-cost organic-inorganic nanocomposites membranes. The obtained nanocomposite membranes are investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution-scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The optical and antimicrobial properties of the prepared nanocomposite membranes were investigated. The obtained results clarified that chitosan/aluminosilicate nanocomposite membranes were considered as a good candidate for spectroscopic and biological applications.
