Abstract

Complex dielectric function, alternating current electrical conductivity, electrical modulus and impedance spectra of PEO16–LiClO4 electrolyte films prepared by different methods are investigated over the frequency range of 20 Hz–1 MHz using dielectric relaxation spectroscopy. The effect of preparation methods on the polymer–salt complexation and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) crystallinity has been studied by the X-ray diffraction. It has been observed that the ionic conductivity and dielectric relaxation times obey the Arrhenius behaviour. The ionic conductivity of PEO16–LiClO4 electrolyte has been compared with that of PEO8–LiClO4, PEO12–LiClO4 and PEO20–LiClO4 electrolytes. It is revealed that the logarithmic ionic conductivity of these electrolytes has linear behaviour with salt concentration which is significantly affected by the sample preparation methods. The ionic conductivity of these solid polymer electrolytes increases with the increase of dielectric strength and the decrease of relaxation times associated with ion conduction.
