Abstract
An historical review of the optoelectronic terahertz technologies, initiated by Auston and Lee and developed remarkably, keeping in step with the rapid progress of short pulse lasers is given first, showing the variety of activities until recently. Then the principles of some terahertz-pulse generation and detection are explained showing experimental results, as the basis of the current booming technology.
