Discover how robotic process automation (RPA) allows companies to automate repetitive and rules-based processes, such as scheduling, inputting/transferring data, cut and paste, filling out forms, and search. While the technology has been around for about 20 years, it has hit an inflection point because of the convergence of cloud computing, big data, and AI.

This video will focus primarily on beginners, covering areas such as definitions, process methodologies, vendor evaluation, bot development, implementation, and deployment. This is a quick and easy-to-understand introduction to the fastest-growing category of the software industry.

What You Will Learn

  • Gain an understanding of the RPA market and how it can impact your mid- to large-sized business

  • Understand the existing processes and methodologies

  • Discover the key terminology for you to better understand and communicate in the RPA industry

  • See the 70+ vendors on the market and how those software applications can best fit your needs

Who This Video Is For

Readers without a technical background, such as managers, looking to understand RPA as a business solution.

This video will focus primarily on beginners, covering areas such as definitions, process methodologies, vendor evaluation, bot development, implementation, and deployment. This is a quick and easy-to-understand introduction to the fastest-growing category of the software industry.

About The Author

Tom Taulli

Tom Taulli has been developing software since high school in the 1980s. By the time he was in college, Tom started his first company, which focused on the development of e-learning systems. Tom then created other companies such as Hypermart that was sold to InfoSpace in 1996.

Along the way, Tom’s written columns for online publications (Forbes, TechWeb, Bloomberg) and authored The Robotic Process Automation Handbook. He’s also an advisor and investor in various tech startups.

Welcome to the video on RPA, or robotic process automation. The industry is one of the fastest and most dynamic in technology. According to Gartner, the spending on the software is estimated to have increased by 63% in 2019 to $1.3 billion. A key reason for this is that the technology has been shown to produce high return on investment, or ROI.

RPA has also become an important for digital transformation efforts, as well as moves into next-generation areas, like artificial intelligence. Something else– learning about RPA can be a great career move. Note that it is one of the categories of the second highest growth in job listings, according to LinkedIn. So what are the topics covered in this video course? Let’s take a look.

RPA market– this segment will provide a definition of RPA and a brief history. There will then be a look at the pros and cons of the technology. RPA skills– to understand RPA, you do not need to be a technical person, but you still need to have an understanding of some key technologies, like cloud computing, OCR, low code, APIs, and AI. We’ll cover all these in this segment.

Process methodologies– in the early stages of an RPA project, it is a good idea to evaluate the existing processes. You may also want to look at strategies to optimize them, such as Six Sigma and lean. Planning– it’s tempting to just get started creating bots, but this usually leads to terrible results. Rather, you need to create a solid plan which has clear set of goals and timetables.

Vendor evaluation– there are over 70 RPA vendors on the market, so you need to find ways to narrow the list down and find those software applications that best fit your needs. Center of excellence, or COE– this is a group that helps with the implementation and management of the RPA platform. This video will show you how to set up one and establish the right roles.

Bot development– this will be a short demo of how to create a simple bot. This will be done using the UiPath platform. Implementation– this video will provide some of the best practices. There’ll also be a look at what to avoid. Data– AI is becoming more and more important with RPA, but to be successful, you need to have a data preparation strategy.

Process mining– this uses machine learning to identify and optimize processes. Process mining has been gaining much traction over the past few years, and is becoming more important to RPA. The future– this will provide predictions on where RPA is headed. Some of the topics will include AI, business models, and vertical-specific software.

Now a background on myself– my name is Tom Taulli, and I started as a self-taught programmer back in the 1980s when I was in high school. By the time I got into college, I started my first company, which was focused on developing software to help students pass exams. After this, I founded other companies. Along the way, I’ve also done quite a bit of writing, such as for forbes.com, where I have a weekly column.

I have also written various books, including Artificial Intelligence Basics, and yes, The Robotic Process Automation Handbook. Both are from Apress. OK, this is the end of the introduction to the video course. Now let’s get started, and we will first take a look at the background on the RPA market.
