Particularities of Calculating Temperature Fields of Large Forging Billets

Abstract

The article shows methods for calculating the uneven temperature distribution in ingots and billets during their heating and cooling between forging operations. Both mathematical methods and methods using CAD/CAE and other computer technologies are considered. The basic equations of thermal processes based on the Euler approach are presented, as well as the assumptions and simplifications adopted in this case are indicated. The main stages in the procedure of solving the problems of temperature distribution in large forgings using computer technology are described. As an example, a computer calculation of temperature fields in a cylindrical billet Ø250 × 500 mm when cooling from 1200 °C on a backing plate with a temperature of 400 °C is shown.
