Abstract

There are a lot of applications where sensor networks may be used. These applications range from military surveillance, in which a large number of sensor nodes are used, to health-care applications, in which a very limited number of sensor nodes are used. Naturally, these applications have an impact on the specifications of the hardware and software for sensor nodes. In this chapter we review a list of possible application scenarios to identify their requirements and to propose the middleware mechanisms. It is important to know where this kind of systems can be applied and the requirements of each scenario. This chapter describes the scenarios and their requirements.
