Wildfire Prevention in the Era of Big Data

Abstract

Big Data analysis emerges as an innovative technology capable of providing solutions to complex problems of global concern, including prevention from natural disasters. In this study, we illustrate the contribution of Big Data technology for wildfire prevention. We describe the development of a web application that combines wildfire behavior simulations with Big Data analysis for alerting and notifying end users in case of a fire emergency. The article aims to contribute in highlighting the role of the Big Data for wildfire prevention, with a view, under certain conditions, to reduce the human, environmental and socio-economic losses that are caused.
