Über dieses Buch

This monograph provides theoretical and practical perspectives on competency management as a key resource for producing competitive products. The authors develop and substantiate a law of dependence between competencies and emergence of new markets, and describe the practical aspects of developing competencies in high-tech companies. Further, they develop economic and mathematical models for managing the competitive advantages of a company based on competencies. Using these models, they present a method for evaluating and ranking core competencies, as well as for multi-criteria ratings of human potential efficiency. The book also discusses the mechanisms of competitiveness management based on a conceptual model of a competence center network.

Chapter 1. Introduction
Abstract
The monograph focuses on the theory and practice involved in managing competencies as key resources to produce competitive goods. It presents developed and substantiated law on dependence between competencies and emergence of new markets. Practical aspects of developing high-tech company competencies are described. It contains economic and mathematical models for managing competitive advantages of a company based on competencies. These models became the basis for the method of evaluating and ranking core competencies and the method of multi-criteria ratings of human potential efficiency. The book contains the mechanisms of competitiveness management based on conceptual model of competence center network.

Chapter 2. Theoretical Aspects for Using Competence as a Tool to Improve Corporation Competitiveness
Abstract
The authors define and group the tools of competitiveness management based on mechanisms of managing large-scale world knowledge and core competencies within and beyond the company. This approach makes a new step in economic sciences particularly in the theory of competitiveness management based on competence approach. Using it executives of a commercial structure can identify the main directions for developing its competencies and enhancing its competitiveness.
The authors firstly formulate the fundamental law on dependence between unique competencies and emergence of new markets. It is described with the mathematical model that reflects the economic mechanisms leading to this relationship. Following this law, companies can identify new key points of economic growth and strengthen its competitive position in the world.

Chapter 3. Approaches to Increasing High-Tech Corporations Competitiveness Based on Human Development
Abstract
On the basis of theoretical approaches, proven in practice, the authors define how the competencies building the human capital of a company affect its competitiveness. The authors pay special attention to the study of the processes of managing corporate intellectual resources (competences). They build the model of competence management in large high-tech corporation that allows putting in order all existing knowledge in the company. So executives will have information about all the competencies that may became core competencies and provide an innovative breakthrough of a company.
This chapter contains authors’ methodology of multi-criteria rating assessment of the efficiency of centers of innovation and competence transfer/using human potential. The proposed model can be integrated into the decision-making system about investing projects concerning development of new specific competencies. It can be also integrated into a complex automated knowledge management system of a company. This model should be used by companies in the process of implementing the strategy on entering new markets, as a tool to assess the impact of increasing investment in human capital on company competitiveness.
This chapter provides a concrete example of using the developed method in a real situation.

Chapter 4. Management of Competitive Advantages of a Corporation Based on Economic-Mathematical Modeling
Abstract
The fourth chapter proposes companies to use a methodical approach to quantitative assessing and ranking key competences, evaluating an aggregated value (index), characterizing the importance of the competence according to the number of specific characteristics describing core competencies. The core competence ranking is determined by their comparison on the basis of mathematical models.
The practical application of the proposed methodological approach to ranking company competencies will enable corporate management to achieve strategic goals successfully and to implement priority directions of innovative development that improve the competitiveness of the products and the corporation as a whole.

Chapter 5. The Conceptual Model of Corporate Network of the Competencies and Innovation Management Centers
Abstract
In the fifth chapter the authors conclude that establishing a centre of innovation and competence transfer as a company’s structural unit is not always sufficient tool for effective competitiveness management. In this regard, they develop a mechanism for establishing a corporate network of such centres that provide the exchange of knowledge and technologies among several companies. To improve the efficiency of such network the authors recommend sharing their results on the specific activities for internal and external.
This chapter contains a block scheme of the algorithm for building the system of competence centres including the corporate organizational units, as well as the scheme of conformity assessment of competence to consumer demand in the market. Practical application of these schemes allows several companies to direct their efforts to achieve a specific innovation goal, which could be a breakthrough in the market of innovative solutions.
Practical interest of the chapter is that it includes the algorithm of creating new competitive advantages based on available unique competence inside and outside the corporation to meet the existing demand in high-tech market.

Chapter 6. Pricing Management Taking in Account the Core Competencies for High-Tech Industry Sustainability Support
Abstract
The authors suggest the method of calculating the optimal rate of profitability of gross income taking into account the elasticity of demand on aerospace product market. The developed method allows to calculate the optimal rate of profitability, ensuring, on the one hand, the competitiveness of products by price, and on the other hand, the income of enterprises, which can be invested it its innovative development. It is shown in the article that it is convenient to plan the maximum profit from sales of products in vertically integrated corporations during transfer pricing and then to distribute to suppliers. In this case, the state budget also receives the maximum tax revenues.
The chapter presents a model for calculating optimal rates of profitability of gross income given wholesale components cost for the parent company in terms of elasticity of demand; an example of calculating the optimal rate of profitability of gross income; non-linear tax mechanism for controlling the growth of prices of suppliers, that are not involved in a vertically integrated corporation.

Chapter 7. Information and Analytical Systems and Simulation Models for Efficiency Assessment and Decision Making in the Field of New Competencies Development
Abstract
The sixth chapter proves that the general problem of high-tech companies is to develop measures for increasing economic stability and implementing rapid economic development in the conditions of various crises occurrence.
The authors propose basic approaches to qualitative and quantitative assessment of economic efficiency of the processes of creation of new products that are competitive on price and technical characteristic in high-tech companies. These approaches are based on using mathematical models. The proposed schemes will allow the company to consider and evaluate various options for production expansion from the point of view of economic efficiency.
The possibility of estimating economic efficiency and economic forecasting various scenarios of economic efficiency in a crisis environment will allow companies to develop the best strategic solutions that will ensure their sustainable development.

Chapter 8. Practical Aspects of Competencies Development of High-Tech Companies
Abstract
Development of unique competencies in corporate practice is associated with the development of information exchange and optimization of using competencies of the real and potential participants of research and production activities. To exchange information with the most effective way companies should establish corporate platforms and databases of available competences that are unique and universal tools and methods for searching innovative management solutions, leading to rapid competitiveness rise, development of innovative climate of high-tech companies, sharing technologies and core competencies.
The chapter identifies the key mechanisms to ensure the effective functioning of the open innovation model. The performance of these mechanisms is confirmed by the specific examples of the success from the world experience presented in the monograph.

Chapter 9. Conclusion
Abstract
The Monograph draws on the theoretical and practical aspects of the highly efficient management of the corporation’s competencies leading to the improvement of its competitiveness in the global market. The conceptual apparatus and methodological foundations for improving the competitiveness of the products of the corporation and the industry on the basis of competencies management mechanisms are presented.
