Zusammenfassung
Die Verschiebung der Alterspyramide in unserer Gesellschaft wird in der näheren Zukunft zu einer deutlichen Zunahme des Anteils älterer Mitarbeiter in den Unternehmen führen. Laut Prognose des Institutes für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung der Bundesanstalt für Arbeit wird der Anteil der über 50jährigen an allen Erwerbspersonen von 23% im Jahre 1996 auf ca. 33% im Jahre 2020 steigen. Auch langfristig wird der Anteil der über 50jährigen Erwerbstätigen nicht mehr unter 30% sinken [13]. Von einer derartigen Veränderung der Altersstruktur der arbeitenden Bevölkerung ist aber nicht allein Deutschland betroffen. In den USA wird der Altersmedian der arbeitenden Bevölkerung im Jahr 2008 höher liegen als je zuvor [14]. Unter dem Stichwort „Age Diversity“ werden die Veränderung der Altersstruktur und deren Auswirkungen auf Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft in den USA schon länger diskutiert. Während die amerikanische Gesellschaft auf diese Veränderungen gut vorbereitet erscheint, rücken die bevorstehenden Entwicklungen in Deutschland nur langsam in das Bewusstsein der Öffentlichkeit.
