Abstract
One of the basic requirements associated with the development and operation of nuclear reactors is control and containment of the neutrons that sustain, and are in turn produced by, fission reactions. Materials that serve this function are often chosen because of their nuclear properties. However, physical and chemical characteristics and behavior may determine selection and operational success.
