Zusammenfassung

Die Frage nach dem Ursprung des Lebens auf der Erde wurde von T. Chamberlin und R. Chamberlin schon im Jahre 1908 mit der Spekulation beantwortet, dass reaktive organische Moleküle, die durch Meteorite und andere „Botschafter“ aus dem Weltall zur Erde gelangt waren, eine chemische Evolution ausgelöst haben könnten. Im Jahre 1961 publizierte der amerikanische Chemiker J. Oró eine ausführlichere Darstellung eines extraterrestrischen Einflusses auf das chemische Geschehen der frühen Erde. Nach seiner Einschätzung waren es vor allem Kometen, die biochemisch relevante Moleküle auf die Erde brachten und dort einen evolutionären Prozess in Gang setzten, der schließlich zur Geburt der ersten Zellen führte.

Der Weltraum war und ist nicht schwanger mit Leben, sondern mit einer extremen Vielzahl von Molekülen, die einer (bio)chemischen Evolution im Wege stehen.
