Summary

In conclusion, the present study reveals that the algal flora and particularly the diatoms are richly developed in the type of habitat hitherto investigated under conditions broadly stated in the introduction. This observation is supported by the fact that as many as 101 diatoms representing 20 of the commonly available fresh water genera, are recorded in two small samples from such a small body of water, besides several unicellular, colonial and filamentous forms of algae.

Of the diatom content noted here, analysis shows that a large bulk of them was fairly represented and the genera Nitschia and Navicula appeared prominent. Further, 6 diatoms which make here new records for India, extend their further range of geographical distribution and three new species are added to science. The qualitative frequency data is also being expressed in the introduction.
