Contents

In the uppermost conductor of electrical machines there can occur, already at no load, eddy current densities of, e.g., 16 A/mm2, thus causing excessive temperature rise and losses, which contribute to the “iron” losses.—The eddy current equation is solved two-dimensionally and a simple loss formula is deduced.—The influences of eddy current reaction, finite slot pitch, finite slot insulation, notches for slot wedges and iron saturation of the tooth-tips are taken into account.—It is demonstrated that the thickness of the conductors influences the losses only if there are two adjacent conductors per slot width.
