Abstract
The distribution of coal reserves in the Russian Federation is considered, in terms of active or reserve status, their end use, open-pit versus underground mining, and suitability for extraction. Coal production over the next twenty years is predicted, and the corresponding stages in the development of open-pit and underground mining technologies are formulated.
