Martensitic transformation cycling effects in Cu-Zn-Al shape memory alloys

Abstract

The effects of transformation cycling between the parent (P) and martensite (M) phases of selected Cu-Zn-Al: alloys were studied. Using differential scanning calorimetry it was observed that the martensite start temperature, Ms, progressively shifts upward with cycling. Also, the proportion of the microstructure actually undergoing P↔M transformation decreases. Transmission electron microscope observations reveal dislocation substructures generated by martensite transformation and reversion.
