Abstract

The effect of Sn and Al-N additions on the hot ductility of a C-Mn steel has been investigated in a series of laboratory melted steels. The addition of either Sn or Al-N produced a similar degree of ductility loss and embrittlement at 800° and 900 °C while no ductility loss was found at 1000 °C. The combination of Sn and Al-N increased the severity of embrittlement and hot cracking and extended the temperature range of ductility loss from 800° to 1000 °C.
