Microsegregation in cellular microstructure

Abstract

On the basis of the microsegregation model of Boweret al., this article presents a modification taking into account the effect of cell geometry. It is concluded that the forward solute rejection at the moving solid-liquid interface could contribute to a reduction in solute enrichment in the intercellular region, and therefore, a flatter segregation profile is predicted. The application of the modified model shows better agreement with experimental data than existing models.
