Abstract
Metal coatings of MCrAlY-type and ceramic thermal barrier coatings on blades and vanes are typical examples of electron-beam physical vapor deposition applications in the gas turbine industry. It is most probable that the gradient thermal barrier coatings will become widely accepted in two to three years. This article reviews current technology in the gas turbine industry and describes some of the possible future aspects.
