Jahrgangsstufe an drei bayerischen Gymnasien durchgeführt.
Abstract
For some years the relevance of computer algebra systems (CAS) in mathematical education has been widely discussed. There has been a lot of suggestions for classroom activities and empirical investigations, but there are only a few long standing science based studies in this area. A one year project was started in autumn 2003 to test the use of scientific calculators in 10th grade of three grammar schools in Bavaria (Germany). The evaluation of the project was intended give answers to the following questions: if basic mathematical skills (algebraic transformations, solving equations, working with tables and formulas) changed; how the questions posed in examinations changed if the students were allowed to use a scientific calculator (with CAS); how the students evaluated the use of the new tool; and how teaching styles and methods changed in the mathematics lessons. This article presents the results of this project.
