Abstract
Monodisperse ZnSe colloidal microspheres were fabricated by a green one-pot wet chemical strategy through aggregation of primary nanoparticles without expensive organic additives or reductants involved. The as-prepared products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectrum, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV–vis absorption and room-temperature photoluminescence techniques. The size-dependent optical spectra of as-obtained microspheres were blue-shifted in comparison with that of bulk ZnSe and exhibit near band edge luminescence, indicating the quantum confinement effect. The strong and stable blue emission band from the ZnSe colloidal microspheres indicates their potential applications as building blocks in photonic crystals.
