Abstract.

We investigated nonlinear refraction, nonlinear absorption, and saturable absorption of polymethine dyes by the Z-scan technique (λ=1064 nm). The analysis of simultaneous appearance of several nonlinear optical processes in dye solutions excited by picosecond pulses was carried out. The saturable absorption was analyzed taking into account various models. Nonlinear refractive indices, nonlinear absorption coefficients, and saturation intensities of various polymethine dyes were measured.
