Abstract

A transient detection method based on permutation entropy (PE) and generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) detector is proposed. PE can measure the complexity of the time series, and the PE values of noise and signals are different. A GLRT detector is utilized to locate the starting point in the PE trajectory of captured signal. This method avoids the difficulty of threshold selection and is suitable to both ramp and step change transient signals. The signals from a mobile phone are utilized to test the performance of the proposed method. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective even in low signal to noise ratio (SNR).
