Zusammenfassung
Theorie
Abstract
Theory
About 25 years ago Aaron Antonovsky introduced the salutogenic theory to the scientific community. The theory provides the explanation that the individual with a strong sense of coherence (SOC) is in a better position to make use of general resistance resources to respond to stress situations and able to change position in the health-disease continuum towards health. A high SOC does not equate with coping strategies but allows a greater opportunity of choice.
Research
The salutogenic model may provide the theoretical framework for health promotion; however, further research is necessary.
Practice
As a model for health promotion the salutogenic approach encourages life experience to develop a strong SOC. The most important experiences are participation in socially accepted activities, having adequate resources available and consistency.
