Abstract

The Ordos basin is rich in oil and gas resources. The structures in the basin are generally rather gentle. Most of the oil and gas pools already found are belong to the types of lithologic, litho-1 stratigraphic and paleo-geomorphic with thin reservoirs. The geology of oil and gas and the generation and distribution of oil and gas resources in the Ordos basin is analyzed in detail in the paper. It is also pointed out in the paper that what direction should be taken in oil and gas exploration in the basin, and that the important role of the seismic prospecting technologies in the discovery of large oil and gas fields in the basin could not be replaced.

Additional information

Yang Hua, a high-ranking engineer, is the deputy general manager of the Changqing Oilfields Company, PetroChina. He graduated from the Southwestern Petroleum Institute in 1984. After graduates he works in the Changqing Oilfields up to now. He organizes and is in charge of several important scientific projects of the state-grade and province-grade. A lot of scientific results have won the prize awarded by the province and higher grade. In the geologic study of oil and gas, and other resources in the Ordos basin and other basins around it, he has played a very important role in the discovery of the Sulige large gasfield and the Xifeng large oilfield. He received the “Youth Scientific and Technology Reward” with the name of Sun Yueqi in 2002, and the state first grade reward of scientific and technology progress in 2003.
