Anatomical and physiological considerations in scleral lens wear: Intraocular pressure
2023, Contact Lens and Anterior EyeCitation Excerpt :The system facilitates movement of fluid only into the collector channels without backflow into Schlemm’s canal or the TM [34,36–38]. Schlemm’s canal drains into approximately 24–35 collector channels [39,40] that vary in shape and size [37,39,40], which connect to aqueous veins and episcleral outflow pathways. Collector channel entrances are endothelial-lined conduits that originate from oval openings in the outer wall of Schlemm’s canal [41].
Evaluation of neural innervation in the human conventional outflow pathway distal to Schlemm's canal
2022, Experimental Eye ResearchImpaired/dysfunctional aqueous collector channels may primarily contribute to the pathogenesis of primary open-angle glaucoma
2022, Medical HypothesesCitation Excerpt :Previous histopathologic and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) analyses of POAG eyes identified degeneration, collapse and narrowing of CCs and ISPs together with obstruction of CC orifices due to adhesion of SC inner wall to CC orifice walls and herniation of juxtacanalicular tissue (JCT) of the TM [14,15] Previous studies have suggested that the aforementioned glaucomatous changes in CCs are secondary results from disappearance of AHO through the TM and SC inner wall, but not the cause [14,16,17]. However, the changes in CCs of POAG patients cannot be excluded as one of the primary causes of POAG as the order of the incidents has not been thoroughly validated yet.
