2020, Chemical Engineering JournalCitation Excerpt :Several studies have been conducted to investigate the fragmentation phenomenon and they can be classified into three distinct approaches [16]. The first method is the discrete approach [26–30], where a fuel particle is modelled as a two or three-dimensional lattice consisting of a large number of small sites. Fragmentation happens when the consumption of a solid site causes the separation of a cluster or clusters of solid sites from the parent cluster.
