An historical perspective of yield surface investigations for metals

Abstract

This survey reviews work dealing either directly or indirectly with initial and subsequent yield surfaces. Emphasis is placed primarily on experimental investigations. Features of the work surveyed which are discussed include motivation, discrepancies, attempts to overcome discrepancies, and the nature of further work needed.

Résumé

On fait un inventaire des travaux concernant directement ou indirectement les surfaces élastiques. On insiste principalement sur les études expérimentales. Les caractéristiques du travail considéré qui sont examinées comprennent le but, les divergences, les tentatives pour les surmonter et la nature de travail supplémentaire nécessaire.

Zusammenfassung

Diese Übersicht bespricht Arbeiten, die sich direkt oder indirekt mit dem Ansatz und der Weiterentwickling von Fliessflächen befassen. Besondere Betonung wird auf experimentelle Untersuchungen gelegt. In den besprochenen Arbeiten werden u.a. Motivierung, Widersprüche und Versuche, Widersprüche zu erklären, diskutiert sowie die Art weiterer auf diesem Gebiet benötigter Forschung.

      Only those loading cycles with residual strain are shown in Fig. 2. Use of yield stresses for off-set values of smaller than 0.2% has been investigated (Mair and Pugh, 1964; William and Svensson, 1970, 1971; Michno and Findley, 1976; Shiratori et al., 1973; Ascione et al., 1982; Stout et al., 1985; Ishikawa, 1997; Gil et al., 1999; Khan and Wang, 1993; and Farrokh and Khan, 2010). In these studies, off-set strain varies between 100 and 1000 με.
