Several studies have been made to determine the terminal solubility of oxygen in α-V by various techniques containing X-ray parametric measurements [16,20,23–25], electromotive force (EMF) measurements [26–28] and the combination of internal friction measurements, oxygen distribution experiments in the V–O–Na system and gaseous oxidation experiments [29]. Compared with other studies [16,24–24], the early investigations performed by Seybolt and Sumsion [20] and Rostoker and Yamamoto [23] reported a clearly low solubility of oxygen in α-V, 0.8–3.2 at% in the temperature range of 1173–1873 K.
