Sabrouti (1983) showed that there was little terrigenous material within Sharm Obhur surface sediments but the opposite was found at Ash Shuqayq. However, some coral reefs are present (sites 4 to 11; Fig. 2), which when subjected to marine erosion, provide limited calcareous and biogenous components.
