Abstract

The current-voltage characteristics of vacuum-deposited CdTe films were studied as a function of film thickness (2500–13000 Å) at various temperatures (0–110°C). The d.c. conduction mechanism was explained using a modified Poole-Frenkel equation.

Additionally, it is seen that both traps types belong to the space charge limited conduction can be presented but each one becomes a dominant in a certain voltage range [14]. Investigations of the conduction mechanisms of CdTe device also show a field lowering conductivity of the Poole-Frenkel type [15,16]. Several studies on evaporated nano-particles are found to maintain their structural properties [5,17].

The properties of CdTe films are very sensitive to preparation conditions where many preparation techniques such as vacuum deposition [7–9], electro deposition [10], molecular beam epitaxial [11], metal–organic chemical vapor deposition [12], closed-space sublimation [13] and screen-printing [14,15] were employed to prepare CdTe films. Many articles studied the different properties of CdTe films [15–26] but many others are needed for more understanding. In this study, the effect of annealing on the structural and optical properties of CdTe films deposited on glass substrate have been studied and the obtained results are discussed.

Therefore, (Se–S–Zn) is of great interest as a model material in such form as thin film, quantum wells and bulk crystals [10]. Due to the number of practical applications in the field of optoelectronics and electro-optics, a great deal of interest has been shown in the study of the dielectric and conduction behavior of various semiconducting materials [11–16]. However, most of the experimental work carried out so far for (Se–S–Zn) relates to various conduction mechanisms, which only provides information about the nature of transport processes.
