Abstract

Thin films of cadmium oxide have been deposited on glass substrates from a chemical bath containing cadmium ammine complex ions. They have fairly good adherence to glass and their thickness varied between 0.2 and 0.6 μm. Optical absorbance, transmittance and reflectance data of the films have been used to obtain the dispersion relation of their optical constants. The films are n-type semiconducting with an optical bandgap of 2.3 eV. They have transmittance of over 85% in the spectral range 530–900 nm. The films have room temperature resistivity of (2−5) × 10t-4 Ωm.
