Several lines of evidence suggest an association between depression and reproductive function (Halbreich et al 1984; MacKenzie 1986; Pearlstein 1995; Schwartz 1991; Weissman and Klerman 1985; Williams et al 1995; Yonkers and Chantilis 1995). A gender difference in depression incidence emerges in adolescence.
