Health hazards from cutting fluids

Abstract

Health hazards known to face workers in machine shops are reviewed. The causes, incidence, and prevention of dermatitis, acne, folliculitis and cancer are discussed. Attention is drawn to some potential but not proven hazards.

    The direct human exposure to the cutting fluids causes dermatitis as a result of primary or direct skin irritation. Furthermore, most cutting fluids provide a ground for bacteria which is hazardous to the machine operator [12]. The ecological side of the cutting fluids has a substantial concern.
