Fourth, previous research shows that individuals discount the future cost of operating refrigerators at a much higher rate than any other appliance (between 39 and 300%) (Train, 1985; DEFRA, 2010; Epper et al., 2011), thus indicating a high potential for behavioral intervention. This pricing methodology is similar to a study commissioned by the European Commission (IPSOS, 2014).
