The enhancements of χ values in these soils are attributed to the pedogenic formation of ferrimagnetic minerals via weathering and transformation of iron-bearing minerals (Mullins, 1977; Singer et al., 1996). The soils in site 1 were classified as Chernozems, Calcisols, and Luvisols (Table S1).
