2020, Journal of Chromatography ACitation Excerpt :Finally, we checked for a relationship between chiral recognition and retention, since it is intuitive that would exist a correlation between the differences in the standard transfer Gibbs energy Δ(ΔG°) and the retention which explains chiral recognition. In chiral gas chromatography, Schurig et al. introduced the concept of "chiral recognition factor", χ = Δ(ΔG°)/ΔG°, as a measurement of the relationship between chiral discrimination and strength of the interactions [41]. In Fig. 6 (B) there is no evidence of correlation between -Δ(ΔG°) and ln k1 in any of the four solvents, indicating that the chiral recognition process is closely dependent on enantiomers chemical nature and not related to the retention factor.
