Interestingly, Kucuksezgin et al. (2002), studying trace metal concentrations in edible fish from Aegean Sea, found that the standard error for mean concentrations of some metals was large in P. erythrinus. Nevertheless, Uluturhan and Kucuksezgin (2007) after analysing the heavy metals accumulation in P. erythrinus reported no significant correlations between fork lengths and metal concentrations in muscle.

2015, Ecotoxicology and Environmental SafetyCitation Excerpt :Indeed, Pb concentrations above DL in ≥80% of samples was only achieved in fish from Cartagena and Barcelona in 2010 (0.034 and 0.040 mg kg−1 w.w., respectively) (Table 1). These Pb levels are remarkably lower than those observed in red mullet from other Mediterranean areas by Kucuksezgin et al. (2001, 2002, 2011) (0.030–0.940 mg kg–1 w.w), Kljakovic Gaspic et al. (2002) (0.060–0.160 mg kg–1 w.w.) and Ozuni et al. (2010) (0.210 mg kg–1 w.w.). Furthermore, Pb levels observed in this study in fish from Cartagena are low, and lower than those previously reported in fish from the nearby area of Portmán (0.040–0.120 mg kg–1 w.w; Benedicto et al., 2008; Martínez-Gómez et al., 2012).
