Abstract

The new mixed valence Sn4+-Sn2+ compound of composition Sn0.5Sn2P3O12 contains highly ionic Sn2+ species within the Type I sites in the channels of the nasicon-related structure. Treatment of the compound CuSn2P3O12 with butyl lithium results in the replacement of Cu+ in the Type I sites by Li+ and the reduction of Cu+ to metallic copper.
