Abstract

The luminescence of Eu2+ in Ba2SiO4, Sr2SiO4, KBaPO4 and KSrPO4 has been studied. Luminescence measurements in the temperature range from 4.2 K to 550 K were performed and gave detailed information on the luminescence properties of divalent europium on both sites available in the orthosilicates. Based on the results on the Eu2+-activated orthophosphates and on a model proposed earlier we are able to assign and to explain the different emissions of Eu2+ on these two sites.
