Animals used
Thirty specimens (six composite samples, five cephalopods per composite) from three classes of cephalopod molluscs Eledone moschata (Mollusca, Cephalopoda, Octopodidae), Sepia officinalis (Mollusca, Cephalopoda, Sepiodea) and Todarodes sagittatus (Mollusca, Cephalopoda, Teuthoidae) were collected from Saronicos Bay (Greece) in November 1996. They were brought to the laboratory alive in sea water and immediately analysed as described below.

Lipids content. Neutral lipids and triglycerides composition
The total lipids of the mantle of Eledone moschata, Sepia officinalis and Todarodes sagittatus extracted according to the procedure of Bligh and Dyer (1959)were 2% (w/w), 1.4% (w/w) and 1.7% (w/w) of wet tissue, respectively, (average for 30 specimens of each of the studied invertebrates). A similar total lipid content was reported by De Koning (1993)for several other cephalopods. The total neutral lipids after separation from polar lipids by solid phase extraction were quantified by weighing

Characterization of glycerophospholipid molecular species in muscles from three species of cephalopods by direct infusion-tandem mass spectrometry
2020, Chemistry and Physics of LipidsCitation Excerpt :For example, a previous study showed that the PL from the muscles of cephalopods Sepia officinalis and Octopus vulgaris included larger percentages of PUFA, among which DHA and EPA were dominant (Reis et al., 2016). Sinanoglou and nMiniadis-Meimaroglou (1998) reported that PL from the muscles of cephalopods Eledonemoschata, Sepia officinalis and Todarodes sagittatus contained higher levels of PUFA, especially DHA and EPA. It has been reported that PL-containing n-3 LC-PUFA has good bioavailability, delivery ability and beneficial health effects (Cook et al., 2016; Gázquez et al., 2017; Ghasemifard et al., 2015).
Composition and metabolism of phospholipids in Octopus vulgaris and Sepia officinalis hatchlings
2016, Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part - B: Biochemistry and Molecular BiologyCitation Excerpt :Eggs of O. vulgaris and S. officinalis show low lipid contents with high proportions of PL with phosphatidylcholine (PC) being the main lipid class (Sykes et al., 2009; Quintana et al., 2015). Similarly to eggs, O. vulgaris and S. officinalis hatchlings generally have higher PL than neutral lipids (NL) content (Bouchaud and Galois, 1990; Navarro and Villanueva, 2000; Quintana et al., 2015), with the former presenting a high proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and the latter a high percentage of monounsaturated fatty acids (Sinanoglou and Miniadis-Meimaroglou, 1998; Viciano et al., 2011). However, the specific FA profiles of the major phospholipid classes have not been determined for the hatchlings of these two species, which could provide important information regarding the design of a suitable diet for these species development during their first life stages.
Monitoring the quality of γ-irradiated macadamia nuts based on lipid profile analysis and Chemometrics. Traceability models of irradiated samples
2014, Food Research InternationalCitation Excerpt :The neutral solvent system consisted of n-hexane–diethyl ether–formic acid (n-H:DE:FA) 60:15:1.5 (by vol) and the polar system of chloroform:methanol:water (C:M:W) 50:20:2 (by vol). Fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) of total lipids (TL) were prepared according to the procedure described by Sinanoglou and Miniadis-Meimaroglou (1998). Both quantitative and qualitative analyses were performed on an Agilent 6890 Series Gas Chromatograph (Agilent Technologies, Palo Alto, CA) equipped with a flame ionization detector, as described by Sinanoglou et al. (2013).
