Abstract

Halloysite, natural mineral with nanotube structure, loaded with iodopropynyl butycarbamate (IPBC) was prepared and its anti-mildew activity against mold and blue-stain fungi was investigated. With dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) intercalation, the loading content of IPBC could reach 34.6 wt% in halloysite nanotubes (HNT), and IPBC remained its crystal state inside HNT lumen. Through inhibition zone test and anti-mildew property test on bamboo, IPBC loaded HNT showed excellent anti-mildew activity against Aspergillus niger, Penicillium citrintim, Trichoderma viride and Botryodiplodia theobromae. In addition, the nano composites have significant sustained release behavior for IPBC, which could prolong IPBC release time from 3 to 62 h in ethanol. The nano composites with excellent anti-mildew activity as well as sustained release property show promising application of protecting wooden materials.
