Abstract

Biocatalytic hydration of 3-methyl- or 3-ethyl-2-butenolide with resting cells of Rhodococcus rhodochrous ATCC 17895 gave the corresponding (R)-3-hydroxy-3-alkylbutanolide in moderate yield and with ≥95% e.e. © Rapid Science Ltd. 1998
