Abstract
Abstract. In media psychology, interactions of metric and categorical predictor variables are frequently analyzed with inadequate techniques based on median-splits or separate correlations. This paper demonstrates that linear models provide ways to analyze these interactions in an adequate manner. The basic principles of estimating, testing, and interpreting interactions of metric and categorical predictors in linear models are explained and illustrated by sample data. Finally, further methodological recommendations are given that are relevant for an application of the method.
