Measuring the Class Structure

Abstract

Previous discussions of social class have assumed a hierarchical structure to social relationships. Using recently developed computer techniques, it has been possible, for the first time, to test this assumption. An analysis of a survey of friendship choices indicated a probable one-dimensional structure.
