Organic solar cells based on cellulose nanopaper from agroforestry residues with an efficiency of over 16% and effectively wide-angle light capturing

Abstract

Cellulose nanopaper (CNP) was successfully demonstrated for enhanced efficiency and effective wide-angle light capturing in organic solar cells (OSCs). The highest power-conversion efficiency (PCE) achieved was up to 16.17%, which is one of the best results for natural materials for OSC use. The effective wide-angle harvesting was demonstrated in the range from −45 to 45 degrees. Importantly, when the incident angle is 45°, the JSC value with CNP was 21.18 mA cm−2, while the corresponding JSC value without CNP was only 15.11 mA cm−2: an increase of ∼40% was observed. The present PCEs were found to be enhanced from 9.12% to 12.78%.
