The use of a fractal dimension measure in conjunction with a Bayesian step change detector for the detection of radio transmitter turn-on transients is described. Fractal dimensions from radio transmission samples are calculated. The Bayesian change detector is then used to detect the change in the fractal trajectory in order to locate the transition point from channel noise to the start of a transient.
