Coplanar waveguide-fed printed hexagonal monopole configurations have been presented for ultra wide bandwidth applications. A parametric study of hexagonal configurations with two different feed arrangements (vertices and side feed) has been carried out to study the effect of feed gap on bandwidth. Experiments performed to measure bandwidth and radiation patterns of these two printed monopole antennas are in agreement with the simulated results. A vertex-fed hexagonal monopole antenna gives ultra wide impedance bandwidth ratio of 15.3:1 for a voltage standing wave ratio of 2:1. The time domain characterisation of the antenna has also been carried out.
