This review surveys the ring closure reactions which occur when appropriate hydroxy compounds are oxidized with lead tetraacetate in nonpolar solvents, and which, in many cases, represent a convient method for the functionalization of nonactivated carbon atoms and a useful synthetic procedure for the preparation of cyclic ethers.
